Motion Guide Miniature linear axis handles small loads
“Small, light and flat” were the adjectives used by Gerhard Baus of Igus at a Hannover Fair press conference to describe his company’s SLN-27 miniature linear axis. Designed for basic handling applications, the motion device comes with or without a stepper motor.

The lubricant-free linear axis is based on the proven drylin N miniature slide guide of frame size 27. Among other things, this means the guide rail of the flexible sliding guide system consists of durable anodised aluminium.
Extremely lightweight
Measuring just 22 mm in height and 28 mm in width, the SLN-27 is particularly well suited for use in devices where internal space is at a premium. Its basic weight of 60 g makes the unit a flyweight among driven linear guidance systems. Even at the maximum stroke length of 250 mm, the miniature actuator weighs only 160 g.
The SLN-27 axis can be supplied in combination with a NEMA 11 stepper motor. Even in that case, the unit’s outside dimensions are compact, at 28 x 28 mm. Motors produced by other manufacturers can be quickly and effortlessly flanged as an option.
Lubricant-free plastic friction bearings
Plastic friction bearings in the spindle and the guide slide enable the system to dispense with lubricant and be completely maintenance free. The effective tipping clearance of the guide slide can be adjusted via four screws. The advance is effected by means of a 5-mm-diameter spindle that is available in gradients from 0.8 to 5 mm. Suitable for delivery movements involving light loads, the SLN-27 can perform light handling tasks in medical instruments and laboratory technology.
