Buyer’s Guide 2012 Update: Pumps and Valves Very small piston compressor makes portable devices quiet

| Redakteur: Kathrin Schäfer

With the Model 2220 WOB-L piston compressor, Thomas extends the small end of the scale for this line of compact aluminium compressors. The newest compressor in the series is the smallest so far: it weighs just 0.7 kg and measures 119 x 67 x 96.5 mm and is well suited for incorporation into such medical equipment as portable oxygen concentrators.

A variable brushless DC motor that serves as the drive allows variable volumetric flow at rates to 34 l/min. The compressor’s continuous-pressure rating is 2.1 bar. The motor requires an additional air supply for cooling. Its service life can be as great as 16,000 hours.

The Model 2220 is equipped with a patented, monolithic pump head designed to reduce the risk of leakage significantly. In connection with its closed-crankcase design, proven WOB-L piston technology ensures low levels of operational noise; this piston compressor emits only 45 dB adjusted. Mounting options found at the pump’s centre of gravity make installation quick and easy.

This model can be used in any device application requiring a small, quiet, lightweight compressor for controlling airflows.
