The first. World Medtech Forum Lucerne (WMTF), organised by Messe Luzern AG and scheduled for 25–27 September 2012, combines a specialist trade show with a conference and a variety of meetings in a new format for the Swiss medical technology industry.

Some 5,000 trade show visitors are expected to attend the 1st World Medtech Forum Lucerne. Organisers say approximately 400 will take part in the three-day conference.

At the three-day trade show, predominantly Swiss supplier companies, research and development and training institutes, and institutional partners and funding organisations will introduce their products and services to international medical device manufacturers. By 12 June, 202 exhibitors had already made firm bookings. This number is expected to rise to 240 when gates open at the Lucerne trade show venue.

The accompanying conference in the modern KKL Luzern facility is to focus on developments in relevant global medtech markets and should provide attendees with decision aids for their export projects. It will be divided into an Executive Day (Tuesday), European Day (Wednesday) and Asian Day (Thursday). The organisers say top speakers from the world’s largest medical industry companies will be participating. Speakers include, for example, Dr. Meinrad Lugan of the executive board of B. Braun Melsungen AG, whose topic is the global challenges facing the medtech industry; Dr. Hans-Hermann Janknecht, head of procurement for RDR Roche Diagnostcs, discussing management of the value-added chain; and Herb Riband, vice-president for external relations international at Medtronic, demonstrating how to plan and realise successful strategies for Asia.

The exclusive Medtech Night opening event, one-to-one meeting opportunities and the “Swiss Lounge” additionally serve to promote networking among the forum’s international participants.

With the Medical Cluster as organisational partner and with support from the export platform Medtech Switzerland, the WMTF has strong backing. Additional partners, such as associations, funding organisations and universities, enhance the event’s prestige.
