Maxon’s new EC 60 flat pancake motor is both robust and particularly well shaped for equipment applications involving tight spaces. It can be used in mobile battery-operated medical equipment such as dialysis machines, for instance.

The availability of several coil variants for battery operation and industrial applications, as well as its flat construction to allow fitting in tight spaces, lend the motor suitability for a variety of uses. Additionally, the EC 60 flat features a maximum torque of 319 mNm and an iron-coated coil with minimal residual torque. Radial load is 100 N maximum. Additional attractive characteristics are a protection rating of IP54, a pre-stressed ball bearing, a grounding attachment, and cable strain relief. The motor can be operated in environments with ambient temperatures between –40° and 100°C.
To make this pancake motor optimally usable for high-precision adjustable applications and positioning tasks, the manufacturer’s MILE encoder (Maxon’s inductive little encoder) can be brought into play. Its operating principle is based on the measurement of high-frequency inductive fields, which generate eddy currents in an electrically conductive target. The advantages of the high-frequency inductive measuring method over that employed by conventional encoders are robust resistance to dust and oil vapours, high-speed capability and insensitivity to interference pulses.
