The measuring principle is based on spectral analysis. The measured object is illuminated with white light, and then the spectrum of the light reflected from the sample is compared with a white reference. The resulting colour coordinates are calculated in the CIE-xy colour system for wavelengths from 390 to 780 nm.

Spectral analysis is the most precise measurement procedure for colour measurement. The colour-value resolution is higher than 0.01 (ΔE), for a spectral resolution of 5 nm. The observation conditions such as the source of illumination and standard observers of 2° and 10° are adjustable. The system operates contact-free at distances up to 55 mm with a measuring geometry of 30°/0°.

ColorControl ACS 7000 offers three operating modes. In the first mode, the colour difference ΔE is measured against a reference value. As many as 15 learned reference colours can be stored. In the second mode, the reflectivity spectrum of the sample is found. And in the third mode, colours are measured and displayed in the appropriate colour space. Additionally, a trend analysis for the individual colours can be depicted and observed over any defined period. Measurements can be conducted at speeds to 2 kHz in every mode.

The system is operated and the relevant measurement parameters are displayed via a web browser. A function for comparing black/white balance also is integrated, and interfaces for processes such as Ethernet/EtherCAT, RS-422, USB and Digital I/O are provided.
