Dymax has introduced the new medical adhesive 211-CTH-SC, a nonsticky, UV- and LED-curable catheter-assembly adhesive that has been developed to exhibit rapid curing when used with either of the Dymax LED systems BlueWave LED Prime UVA or Blue Wave DX-1000.

Based on patented Dymax See-Cure technology, 211-CTH-SC has a strong blue colour in its uncured state. As a result, it is very easy to recognise where the adhesive has been applied to the catheter substrate. Potential dosing errors thus can be corrected before curing takes place. The adhesive is cured by irradiation with UV light, at which time the colour changes from blue to transparent. Completion of the curing process is confirmed by the absence of visible colour.

The new adhesive is solvent-free and designed for rapid gluing of metals and plastics. It is typically used to join y-connectors, hoses, balloon catheters, cannulae and other catheter components. Substrates that can be glued include PC, PU, PS, PA, ABS, PVC, SAN, CAP, TPU and stainless steel.

The product is ISO 10993 approved and has been formulated to handle the special challenges faced in manufacturing catheters with the latest construction materials. This adhesive is compatible with gamma, EtO and beta sterilization methods.
