Test Technology Modular CT test systems deliver micron and nano-scale resolution
Matrix Technologies presented a new system concept for micro–computed tomography at the recent Control trade show in Stuttgart. The µCT family of manual systems features resolution as fine as 0.5 µm.

The new µCT family expands Matrix Technologies’ portfolio of devices for automatic AXI/CT testing. Its high resolution enables testing down to the nano range. The systems are suited for use in conventional nondestructive testing, in metrology, in small-batch testing and in quality inspection of medical devices and other products.
The manufacturer has focused on flexibility and modular construction: the systems can be equipped with various 130- to 240-kV microfocus X-ray tubes and with high-resolution nanofocus X-ray tubes to suit diverse application requirements. Likewise, several state-of-the-art detectors are available, which can be used to optimise the system for a wide variety of testing tasks. Calculation of the reconstruction of the tested part is always performed in real time (online for measurement), even with large data sets and a short measurement cycle. This is made possible by means of fast hardware-based graphics cards.
These µCT test systems can also perform semiautomated measurement in small-batch testing. For metrology applications, the manufacturer additionally provides specific high-precision reconstruction methods as an option.
Also, in many areas, tests or investigations undertaken consecutively may not be enough. Users may want to test the parts under strain as well, in order to obtain more meaningful results. In this context, therefore, the X-ray specialist offers, for the first time, a combination of the µCT with other units designed for testing tension, pressure, torsion, heating or cooling; this enables additional tests to be completed during the CT procedure. Application areas for this capability include R&D, inline quality assurance (sample testing) and production testing.
