Bal Seal Engineering B.V.

Advancing medical device technology.

Bal Seal Engineering Inc. is a global provider of custom-engineered sealing, connecting, conducting and shielding solutions. The company’s core technology, the canted-coil™ spring, is a versatile component that functions independently or in combination with precision polymer sealing and metal retaining elements to enhance equipment performance and reliability.

More than just a problem-solver, Bal Seal is an innovation partner. With over five decades of experience and a vast application knowledge base, the company specializes in helping OEMs develop breakthroughs that set industry standards, push the technology envelope, and provide a competitive edge.

Bal Seal’s core product, the canted-coil™ spring, was first conceived in 1951 by Peter J. Balsells, a young engineer and entrepreneur from Catalonia, Spain. Faced with a critical aerospace sealing challenge, Balsells applied education and inspiration to devise a new technology that combined the unique mechanical properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with a precision-engineered spring.

Balsells’ invention, which outperformed conventional elastomeric o-rings and satisfied the toughest application requirements, became known as the Bal Seal™. His energizer component, the canted-coil™ spring, proved effective in connecting and EMI/RFI shielding/grounding applications, too.

Although Balsells’ original innovations are still an important part of its product mix, the company consistently develops new solutions and materials that play an important role in the advancement of technology and the growth of global business.
