US-Based Coverity Wins Embedded World Award

The American company Coverity Inc., a specialist in software quality and security, is the recipient of the Embedded World Award in the Software category. The jury thus distinguished Coverity’s Integrity suite, the core of which is the Prevent solution, praising the analytical tool’s efficiency and accuracy.

Using Prevent, developers can check millions of lines of code within a few hours and be assured that, with 100% path coverage, the false-positives rate is extremely low. The bit-accurate software representation by the Software DNA Map analytical system makes this possible, along with the innovative application of Boolean satisfiability (SAT) by means of SAT solvers at the source-code level. Among other things, these check whether errors in the code actually do have a negative effect on subsequent software operation.

Coverity’s introduction of SAT into software analysis is of greater significance than earlier improvements in statistical analysis. SAT solvers represent a mature, highly developed technology that benefits from decades of optimization by computer hardware companies. A Coverity patent covering a use of this technology forms the basis for a new generation of statistical analysis, thanks to which it is possible to use two complementary analytical techniques—SAT and path simulation—to achieve unprecedentedly accurate results.
