Flexible Hybrid Cable for Data Transfer in X-Ray Systems

Leoni’s new hybrid cable transfers high-resolution digital images from Trixell flat image detectors in modern X-ray equipment made by Siemens.
Leoni AG, a cable system provider for the medical technology industry, will be equipping the new generation of X-ray devices from Siemens with a data transfer line. The hybrid cable, which consists of copper wires, light-wave conductors and cooling hoses, transfers high-resolution images from flat image detectors.
Thanks to its flexible structure, the new hybrid cable supports a high degree of C-arm mobility around a medical patient while, at the same time, allowing efficient data throughput. It carries high-resolution digital shots from Trixell flat image detectors in modern X-ray apparatus.
The line, designed specifically for the sophisticated demands of cardiology, is used, for example, in the latest high-end C-arms of the well-known Siemens Axiom Artis and Artis zee series, including the versatile Artis zee ceiling-mounted system for angiocardiography, electrophysiology and general angiography. With the aid of the flat image detector, the devices of the latest C-arm generation are capable, for example, of providing radiologists with a continuous supply of high-quality images during a catheter-based examination.
In addition to shielded copper pairs, the cable comprises sensitive plastic and glass light-wave conductors that ensure rapid information transfer under conditions of extensive mobility, and also cooling hoses that keep the flat image detector from heating up. This design guarantees reliable data throughput.
The cable’s flexibility and robustness are impressive. The Healthcare division of Siemens AG prescribed a test involving 2 million bending cycles, which was conducted at Leoni’s proprietary testing facility in Friesoythe, Lower Saxony. The cable passed the test effortlessly.
